| The main product in the market is based on c-Si solar module, but in the next decade thin film solar module will demonstrate greater growth rate. According to Photon International, thin film production capacity will surpass 3 GW by year 2010. In contrast to crystalline silicon technology, thin film technology has three major advantages: |
| 1.Immune from silicon raw materials shortage: |
- High purity silicon raw materials face serious shortage that limits the production capability of c-Si type solar cell.
- Due to the fact that the upstream raw materials’ providers only allow short term contracts, most of them expiring by 2007, securing raw materials will be a very difficult task in near future.
- Nanowin CIGS solution uses no silicon in any form, thus is independent from the existing raw materials shortage.
|
| 2.Higher power output per watt:: |
- Foreign research institutions such as Britain’s Oxford University, China’s NanKai University, Dutch energy research institute ECN, and Japan’s Kaneka Company published and confirmed this finding. Dutch energy research institute ECN,, thin film solar modules ranked higher than crystalline silicon modules.
- Thin film solar modules are more sensitive to luminance. Since it takes lower photon energy to activate, thin film solar module possesses higher productivity under low radiation, such as under cloudy conditions.
- 12% thin film module conversion efficiency is equivalent to 15% crystalline module efficiency in terms of power output.
- Thin film solar module is relatively stable to its surrounding temperature and is less affected by the temperature variations between seasons.
